2017 Pinot Noir Carneros, Mitsuko's Vineyard, Pommard Clone

This well-structured Pinot Noir expresses flavor profiles of dark cherry and blackcurrant with mild tones of earth, tobacco and spice. The palate is broad, with red fruits, good oak integration and a lovely silky finish. This particular vintage is lighter in style offsetting its typically masculine edge.

Vineyard Notes

Mitsuko’s Vineyards Pommard Pinot Noir is a well-structured Pinot Noir grape. Considered a “heritage clone”, as this Pinot Noir clone was originally sourced from the Chateau de Pommard in Burgundy by the University of California at Davis, is known for having a more “masculine” edge. Pinot Noir is commonly found in Los Carneros and is a key to the region’s notoriety. Mitsuko’s Vineyard offers ideal cooling breezes that blow in from the San Pablo Bay which create the slow, balanced growing season these varieties need to build complexity.

Winemaker Notes

The grapes were hand picked in the early morning and delivered to the winery whilst the temperatures were still cool. They were sorted and destemmed before being sent to tank for a four day cold soak. Punch downs happened twice a day until the wine was dry, where upon it was gently pressed to barrel where it underwent malolactic fermentation. After nine months in barrel it was lightly filtered and bottled.
